The word "Amaravati" derives its name from the historical Amaravati Temple town, the ancient capital of the Telugu Rulers of the Satavahana dynasty. This site has also come under the influence of Buddhism and has one of the largest stupas and is centrically located in the Varadhi junction which is evident from the national highway 16. Buddhist wheel is derived from the buddhas teachings and considered the wheel of laws.
The prevalence of the lotus in Buddhist art, iconography, and architecture not only provides inspiration to followers of the Dharma so that they too, can rise from the mud of ignorance and become perfected beings which depicts purity, peace and enlightment. Like a lotus strives to come out of the muddy waters, the ring of lotus medallions depict how the city should develop into a world class city by overcoming its limitations and developing in the 8 aspects of a smart city. The various rings shows its evolution in development as a city.
