Project Info - KAKINADA SMART CITY DEVELOPMENT (COMPETITION)

Smart city development is proposed on either side of the canal surrounded by national highway NH214 with about 5.50 Kms of 260m stretch integrating two bridges(Jagannathapuram bridge and NTR bridge). The allocated site is at the primary location of the city having traditional importance of buckingham canal that serves as the only connectivity between north and south expansions.

Since the site is located in the cyclone prone area, the design was developed as a place for recreation. The sustainability in design includes recycle of containers for restaurants, reorganisation of the fish market and port to avoid degradation of resources in the site. The existing retaining walls portray the culture and evolution of the city which are distinctively evident from the national highway creating the significance to the design
